St. Bartholomew's School, a comprehensive school for girls and boys aged 11 to 18, resulted from the amalgamation of two schools in 1975; St. Bartholomew's Grammar School for boys (founded by the Will of Henry Wormestall, 1466) and the Newbury County Girls Grammar School (founded 1904).
